Home / About me
Hi there! My name is Ricky Stiles and I’m a graphic designer and illustrator with 11 years of in-house and design agency experience. Originally from Hampshire, I’ve now settled on the beautiful north east coast where I live with my wife. I am passionate about design and illustration, I’m currently improving my skills in video and photography and keen to expand upon my knowledge of UI/UX design.
After graduating in 2007 with a 2:1 in Graphic Communication, I worked at a printers where I gained in-depth knowledge of print processes and production. I was also given the opportunity to work in the attached design studio, K Design, giving me valuable experience in artworking and stationery design.
Next up I took on the role of Junior Graphic Designer at a design agency just outside London. Here I worked mainly on design for packaging and advertising for globally recognised brands. After that I took on Graphic Designer roles at two further design agencies, where I was given the opportunity to fully design and artwork inflight magazines for international airlines, produce animated web banners, illustrative packaging and even Flash-based mini online games.
My most recent role began as the sole in-house designer for a utilities consultancy. This was a unique experience for me after 7 years in design agencies, but it was one that gave me the opportunity to take ownership over a brand and later, management of a small design team. The role was also surprisingly varied, giving me the opportunity to design and code HTML mailers and web pages, produce HTML5 animated banners and also film and edit a variety of short promotional films. This, along with my first experience of management, has provided me with a multitude of skills to add to my repertoire.
I am currently working on a freelance basis.
